School celebrates A-level grade success

The number of students achieving three or more A-level grades at A* to A increased by three per cent this year at Newtown High School.
The results came out today and the school said it had seen a rise in the number of top grades achieve, with 75 per cent of students gaining the equivalent of two or more grades at A* to C, with 96 per cent achieving the Level 3 threshold.
“One hundred per cent of our students achieved Distinction Star - Pass in BTEC Level 3 courses. This success reflects the talent and determination of our students and the dedication of their teachers,” said a school spokesperson.
“Ninety-four per cent of students entered for the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate achieved A* to C grade, with 100 per cent achieving this qualification at A* - D, further enhancing their employability skills.”
Notable performers were Charlotte Gerrard who achieved 1A*, 3 As and 1B, an average wider points score of 1350 and is going to study Game Development at John Moores University, Liverpool; Ryan Parry who achieved 4 A*s, an average wider points score of 1200 points and is going to study Economics and Management at Oxford University; Dino Georgiou who achieved 2As and 2 Bs, an average wider points score of 1020 points and is going to study Pharmacy at Cardiff University; twin sisters Dohee and Juhee Lee achieved 1D*, 1A and 2 Bs (respectively), an average wider points score of 1020.
Dohee is going to study Aviation Management at the University of Coventry and Juhee is going to study Advertising and Management at the University of Birmingham.
“We are incredibly proud of all our Sixth Form students and appreciate that their results reflect not only their dedication but also the considerable support of their parents and families.”
Rob Edwards, headteacher, said: “It is a testament to all of our students for their hard work and efforts this year, in particular girls who considerably improved their average wider points score to last year.
“We are also delighted that nearly all of our students achieved their first preference place at university. The school and I wish them every success with their future pathways."
