A new social housing development in Newtown has been opened up to residents and others to see.

Local residents and invited guests were given an opportunity to look around the new houses developed by Mid Wales Housing Association at the Canal Road site.

The development includes 30 new affordable homes with a mix of property types ranging from one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses.

The main contractor for the scheme was Pickstock Partnership of Oswestry, with the construction contract being managed by Mid-Wales Housing Association’s project manager, Rigby Thorpe.

The development cost in the region of £3.2 million and is part-funded by £2 million of Welsh Government Social Housing Grant with the remainder funded by Mid-Wales Housing.

Mrs Sian Howells, Director of New Business of Mid-Wales Housing, said: “The scheme is an excellent example of what can be achieved by everybody working together.

"Welsh Government, together with the support of Powys County Council, have made the funding arrangements very straightforward and Pickstock Partnership has constructed these homes most efficiently. We are very pleased with these new homes and the redevelopment of what was a disused area of land in Newtown and are confident that the residents will enjoy living in their new homes."
