Powys County Council administrative staff from throughout offices in north Powys could soon be relocated to Ladywell House in Newtown.

MyNewtown understands the county council is close to securing the purchase of the office building in the town centre from the Welsh Government, which has offices with the building.

The council admitted several months ago that it was considering purchasing the property as part of plans to consolidate the number of buildings and sets it has.

A council spokesperson said: “We have reached a principle agreement with the Welsh Government to buy Ladywell House but legal discussions are still ongoing before the purchase can be finalised.

“We hope these discussions will be completed over the coming weeks.”

It is understood all administrative staff and sites within Newtown will be relocated to the building, along with those at the current main office headquarters for north Powys at Neaudd Maldwyn in Welshpool. Staff currenrly based at offices in other parts of north Powys could also be relocated there.

It is not known if the council will then sell off the Welshpool site for property development, although it is Grade II listed but could be converted into other use.

The Welsh Government and other tenants, such as the Big Lottery Fund and private companies, will remain at Ladywell House.
