Families from across the Newtown and Welshpool areas are being invited to get covered in colour at a new fundraising event taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Berriew’s first 5K Colour Run will be held on Sunday, August 30, alongside a colour obstacle course for younger children.
Participants can run, jog or walk the 5K course, making the event suitable for people of all abilities rather than only experienced runners.
The children’s course will offer youngsters their own colourful and messy adventure, while a bouncy castle will provide more entertainment on the day.
Money raised will be divided equally between Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Berriew Preschool.
Organiser Lynsey Evans said: “We are really excited to be bringing Berriew’s first Colour Run to the village and hope the whole community will get behind it.
“We wanted to create something fun for the whole family while raising money for three causes that mean so much to us.
“Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Alder Hey do incredible work supporting children and their families, and we’re delighted to be raising money for them alongside supporting Berriew Preschool.
“We’d love for this first Colour Run to be the beginning of something special and hopefully become an annual event for the community.”
Gates will open at 10.30am for registration and the collection of colour-run glasses. A warm-up will begin at 11.15am, before the gates close at 11.25am.
The children’s obstacle race will start at 11.30am, with the adult 5K beginning once the younger participants have completed their course.
Entry costs £10 for the 5K and £5 for the children’s obstacle course. Spectators can attend free of charge.
Food will be available from The Potato Box, Mandy Watkins and Greenhouse Café, and there will also be a licensed bar. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics and blankets.
A raffle will be held, with organisers still accepting prize donations from businesses and individuals.
The event has received backing from a host of local businesses, as well as support from Berriew Show.
Places can be booked in advance through the online registration page https://www.zeffy.com/en-GB/ticketing/colour-run-fundraiser, although registration will also be available on the day.
The colour run takes place in Berriew, SY21 8AN, on Sunday, August 30.
