Newtown Town Council has secured £83,000 to deliver a series of improvement projects across the town, including a new youth shelter, visitor information boards, planters and gateway banners.
The funding has been awarded through the Pride in Place Impact Fund and will be used to deliver projects identified in the community’s Place Plan, Our Town, Our Plan.
The biggest single project is a £30,000 investment in a teen shelter and seating area, providing a dedicated space for young people.
A further £20,000 has been allocated for tourist interpretation boards and signage, while £20,000 will be spent on new planters in key locations around the town. The remaining £13,000 will fund street banners at five main entry points into Newtown.
According to the town council, the projects are intended to improve accessibility, enhance the appearance of the town and strengthen civic pride.
A spokesperson for Newtown Town Council said the funding would help deliver priorities identified by residents through the Place Plan process.
“This investment represents a significant step forward in delivering commitments to the community’s Place Plan,” the spokesperson said.
“There are ideas in the Place Plan to which many can contribute, and these projects will help make a tangible difference to how people experience the town, whether they live here, work here, or are visiting.
“Your Place Plan has helped your council make the case for the full amount so thank you all who contributed to it.”
The council said work on the projects will be rolled out in phases during the year, with further updates to be provided as schemes progress.
