Residents in the east ward of Newtown will go to the polls later this month to elect a new councillor to Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.
The election has been called to fill a vacancy in the Newtown Llanllwchaiarn East ward, with the official Statement of Persons Nominated confirming three candidates will stand in the contest.
A poll will take place on Thursday, 19 March, with voting held at the Methodist Church on Back Lane in Newtown.
The candidates standing are:
• Kevin James Mitchell, Bryn Close – Reform UK
• Gemma Louise Offland, Old Kerry Road – Welsh Liberal Democrats
• Zwelibanzi Radebe, Frolic Street – Independent
Town Clerk Ed Humphreys welcomed the nominations and encouraged residents to take part in the vote. “I extend a warm welcome to those candidates who are prepared to stand; after all, local councils are in a unique position having an electoral mandate, can raise and allocate resources, and of course are local. I encourage all residents in the Ward to use their vote," he said.
“I’d also like to thank all town councillors who volunteer their time and effort by working together, and with others, to reach consensus in trying to make this community a better place where people choose to live, learn, work and visit.”
Emergency proxy applications, for example due to medical reasons or work commitments that prevent attendance at a polling station, can be made up until 5pm on polling day.
