Newtown 10k announced for May 2023

Entries are now being taken for the first Newtown 10k, which is being organised by the same company that brought a similar and hugely successful event to Welshpool in March.

Adrenaline Sporting Events confirmed to MyNewtown last night that initial discussions with various Newtown entities had been held, with the event expected to see more than 1,000 runners take part on Sunday, May 21, 2023.

“We have been warmly welcomed to Newtown and really look forward to hosting a successful event there,” said Alan Lewis, from Adrenaline Sporting Events.

“This will take our annual running calendar to six events and will follow on from the brilliant 10k that we held in Welshpool recently. The success of that event gave us the encouragement to look at more Montgomeryshire venues so we also have the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon now as well.”

Alan said he is particularly pleased to be working with Newtown where he enjoyed three years playing junior football under former Wales manager, Mike Smith.

“I have such fond memories of the town, and particularly of Mike who taught me so many life values and gave me the belief as a youngster that I could achieve things,” said Alan.

The Newtown 10k is expected to start in front of the Open Newtown building before a “fast and very scenic” route that will go via Back Lane and Canal Road to the stunning riverside footpath.

The course will be officially measured tomorrow (Friday) but entries are being taken now at https://www.adrenalinesportingevents.co.uk/newtown-10k-run/.
