Attempted robbery of woman in supermarket car park

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Newtown.

It has only just emerged that a woman was targeted in the incident at the Tesco car park in Newtown on 23 September.

The incident saw a man dressed in black approach a woman at 5.45am and attempt to grab her handbag.

PC Aimee Dix of Newtown Police said: “Dyfed Powys Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in the Newtown area. On 23rd September 2019 at approximately 0545hrs a female was approached while in the carpark of Tesco’s, Newtown, by a male dressed in all black and wearing a woolly hat, with his hood up.

"He was described as a skinny build and in his 20’s. The suspect has grabbed at the females handbag and attempted to take it from her before being disturbed by an approaching vehicle.

"The suspect has then run off towards the Vauxhall Garage, Newtown. We would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Tesco or Pool Road and the Vauxhall Garage around the time the offence has taken place, especially if you were the driver or passenger of the approaching vehicle.
