College salon is a cut above the rest

Coleg Powys' Academi training hair salon in Newtown has become one of just three colleges in Wales and 30 throughout the UK to be awarded  Wella Professionals Centre of Excellence Status.

Coleg Powys Well Professionals Centre of ExcellenceThe salon was put through its paces recently, competing with a total of 244 colleges nationwide for the award.

Staff and students are delighted at having received this award from such a well-respected product manufacturer in the hair industry.

Academi, together with Salon Bannau at the college’s Brecon campus who were recently awarded their Centre of Excellence, have made Coleg Powys one of just 30 colleges  who were able to meet the challenging criteria that Wella Professionals demanded.

At a recent presentation a commemorative plaque was awarded to the college and given to Coleg Powys Principal, Simon Pirotte, by Wella Professionals Customer Business Development Key Account Manager Paul Oscroft.

Paul said: “Wella Professionals is proud to be working with Coleg Powys and delighted that we have been able to award the Wella Centre of Excellence to the College. Coleg Powys is one of only 3 Colleges in Wales with this award and only 30 Colleges nationally. It represents the quality of the facilities at the College but more importantly the quality of the education for the students.”

He added: “Wella Professionals is passionate about supporting young learners and getting them started in the hairdressing industry and by working in partnership with Coleg Powys we believe the young people from the area will get the best possible start in their career.”

Mr Pirotte, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the excellent hairdressing provision in Coleg Powys has received this recognition from a world leading brand such as Wella. It is a testimony to the hard work of both staff and students on our Brecon and Newtown campuses.”

Hannah Pritchard, hairdressing Lecturer at Academi said; “We are very proud to have been awarded the Wella Professionals Centre of Excellence. We look forward to working closely with Wella and putting our students forward for competitions to show off their skills and techniques developed at Coleg Powys to further their careers in the hairdressing industry.”

This latest accolade not only reflects the high standard of facilities and training available at the college, but offers additional opportunities for students to take part in nationwide competitions and schemes run by the leading hair product manufacturer.
