Gregynog Festival’s 2013 curtain raiser

Created on 14/01/2013 @ 16:17

The 2013 Gregynog Festival will be launched at an evening of chamber music by the renowned Alberni String Quartet on Friday night from 8pm.

The concert, the traditional curtain-raiser for Wales’ oldest classical music festival, takes place in the Music Room at Gregynog Hall, near Newtown, with its excellent acoustic for chamber music-making. This intimate setting is the ideal environment in which to enjoy the Alberni’s programme of Quartets by Schubert, Debussy and Britten.

The Alberni Quartet (pictured) is regarded as one of the outstanding ensembles of our time and has toured to all parts of the globe, including the Americas, Australasia and China. People are advised to book early to avoid disappointment as this concert is always an extremely popular date in the Montgomeryshire music calendar.

And audience members can now choose their own seats via the Festival website or call the enquiry line on 01686 207100. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door on the night, subject to availability. Admission is £10 for adults and £2 for young people aged 18 and under.

The 2013 Gregynog Festival runs from June 20-30 and this season has been curated on the theme of Great Britten to mark the centenary of the birth of Benjamin Britten, who performed at the Festival in 1972. The headline international performers will be announced during Friday’s concert. Booking for members of the Festival’s Patrons Circle opens that evening with postal booking to follow from February 18.

More updates will appear on both MyNewtown and MyWelshpool as the festival draws nearer.
