Literary festival to return next month

Created on 23/05/2022 @ 10:47
Organisers of the Monty Lit Fest have announced it is returning to a physical event next month and they say it will be bigger and better.

The festival was another local event struck by the two year pandemic. It had to go online for the past two years and will now return to an in-person event on 10-12 June.

One person who is particularly keen to see its return is Woody Jones. He won a competition in 2020 to design a bookmark for the festival. This year will see his design come to fruition.

Woody said: "I’m very pleased and proud that I won the competition and my design has been printed onto bookmarks to advertise the Monty Lit Fest. I look forward to going to it."

This year's festival includes 20 sessions with the likes of bestselling novelists Janice Hallett and Sophie Hannah visiting Montgomery for three days of culture and conversation.

The literary festival prides itself on celebrating writing from Wales, the Borders and beyond with a wide range of sessions covering everything from fiction, poetry and music to farming, history and nature and even a pub quiz.

There will also be a children’s session (free for up to four children per adult with a ticket) and two writing workshops covering radio and food writing.

The finale on Sunday afternoon is a literary cricket tea, with the help of Montgomery Cricket Club which celebrates its 175th anniversary with writers Marcus Berkmann and Roger Morgan-Grenville.

Festival Chair and Trustee, Sarah Morris, said: “After two years of running sessions online, we can’t wait to hold the Festival in-person again. We’re excited to launch such a wide-ranging programme that really does offer something for everyone.

"We look forward to welcoming book lovers to Montgomery to meet some amazing authors. We know we’re not the biggest Lit Fest in Powys but we like to think we are the friendliest and we are very proud of the summer programme we have on offer.

"We are so pleased to be able to use Woody’s striking doodle design for our Festival bookmark and I hope he, and all our visitors, feel the event has been worth the wait.”
