Awards for Small Steps counsellors

26/02/2016 @ 08:13

The tireless work of two counsellors with the Small Steps Project at Newtown has been recognised by the High Sheriff of Powys.

The Small Steps project works with younger people aged 16 to 25, and offers early intervention for those at risk of mental health problems, or already suffering a degree of mental distress, who may have depression or anxiety or be self-harming.

Diane Williams and Kemal Keeble received awards acknowledging the vita support they provide to the people of Newtown from High Sheriff Lt Col Mike Lewis

He said “It is simply amazing the amount of time put in by these two people.  The fact that the project is completely self-funded is just staggering.”

Louise Macken, Trustee of Small Steps said: “I am immensely proud of both Diane and Kemal, they are the most patient, enthusiastic and caring people I have ever met.  This award is very well deserved and, with enough financial support, long may they continue to provide the service to the young people of Newtown”.

Also receiving an award was Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre, one of the few charities who provide safe housing for both male and female victims of domestic abuse.
