Administrator's for the beleaguered Focus DIY store chain say they are to close the remaining 120 stores which includes Newtown.
Ernst and Young have sold 55 stores nationally to competitors, although they could not confirm if Newtown was one of them. If it hasn't been sold it will close this weekend. Focus had 178 stores nationwide before it went into administration three weeks ago.
There have been rumours circulating in Newtown that the site could be bought by another leading supermarket chain, adding to Tesco, Morrisons and the Co-Operative which have large stores in the town.
Closing down sales are expected to start today and some stores are expected to close over the Bank Holiday weekend. mynewtown is awaiting a statement from Ernst and Young about the Newtown site.
