Abermule suffer Bellis blow

04/02/2011 @ 12:20

Abermule’s bid to secure mid-table comfort in the Spar Division Two have suffered a blow after new signing Barry Bellis was ruled out for a month with injury.

The striker has suffered a thigh injury and will start by missing this weekend’s double-header league game at Meifod on Saturday and Montgomeryshire Cup match against Kerry the following day.

However, the club has bolstered its ranks by re-signing former Karry, Llanidloes and Carno midfielder Jamie Selvey and persuaded young goalkeeper Gareth Williams to switch rugby for football.

Kerry face a big match at Montgomery who have closed to within two points of the second-placed side.

The big game of Division One sees Llanidloes entertain leaders Berriew while Llanfair United travel to Llandrindod Wells.

Welsh Cup

Caersws will try again when they hope to travel to Port Talbot in their delayed Welsh Cup fifth round encounter.

The Bluebirds have played just twice in three months, and in that time new signing Matty Davies has been waiting to make his debut due to a suspension carried over from his previous club. He will be frustrated again because he is cup tied so will pull on the blue for the first time against Guilsfield on Tuesday.

Marathon runner Andy Davies has made himself available for February and Mark Griffiths is also back in the frame after a lengthy lay off.

The winners of the tie will take on Bangor City or Haverfordwest County in the quarter finals.

Amateur League

It’s top against bottom in the Honda Division One with Llanidloes Reserves taking on Berriew Reserves who have still only played five league games all season.

Second placed Caersws Reserves play Guilsfield Reserves who have not played since November 9.

But spare a thought for Llanfair Reserves in Mitsubishi Division Two. They will hopefully play their first home league game of the season against Llansantffraid Village Reserves, weather permitting! Leaders Technogroup Welshpool Reserves travel to Llanfechain for the division’s match of the day.
