Abermule lose Kirkham back to Monty

Montgomery manager Clive McNamee has moved quickly to fill the hole left by Tom Evans’s departure to Welshpool by re-signing Shane Kirkham.

The midfielder caused a shock by departing Monty in October for Spar rivals Abermule but after starring in Montgomery’s dramatic Montgomeryshire Cup win over Berriew last week, he has decided to return.

“We’re delighted to have him back, especially with Tom leaving for Welshpool,” said McNamee. “It was always my intention to go back for Shane in January. I don’t think there is anyone better in his position in our league. With Geraint Windsor looking stronger every game and Stuart Buckley-Robins finally completing a three-match suspension, which has took eight weeks because of the weather, we can look towards the second half of the season with some optomism.”

Kirkham’s departure has not gone down well at Abermule who pinned their hopes on the experienced playmaker leading their surprise bid for promotion.

Club spokesman Bryan Jarman said: “Obviously the club is disappointed to lose someone of Shane's ability so soon after he joined but we wish him well. Once Tom Evans left Montgomery for Welshpool it was inevitable that they would want Shane back. As a club we are now looking forward to getting back to league action against Bont this weekend.”
