Cadwallader back for Carmarthen trip

10/12/2010 @ 11:55
Gavin Cadwallader is set to return to the Newtown squad after a month’s lay-off as the trip to Carmarthen looks likely to get the go-ahead.

Cadwallader has been sidelined with a groin injury but the club captain looks set to be back in contention and probably the only player to have welcomed the last two week’s cancellations.

Carmarthen’s Richmond Park ground was said to be thawing out today and the match referee was planning a 3pm visit as a precautionary check.

Robins manager Andy Cale, who is in Ireland on duty with the England Under-16 squad, said he was keeping his fingers crossed that the game went ahead.

“We need to start playing again or there will be a backlog which will prove very difficult to clear,” he said after seeing England’s fixture with Ireland called off due to a frozen pitch.

“The players are itching to get started again and my only fear is rustiness as the weather has even made it impossible for us to get everyone together for a training session.

“Everyone is now keen to impress as they are well aware that I will be looking around during the January transfer window.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the attitude of the current squad. They are a pleasure to work with.”

Cale, who  will have a full strength squad to chose from, was not disappointed in the recent cancellation at Bala.

“It would have been a lottery on that surface and some of the players were unable to travel anyway because of the conditions,” he said.

Caersws are due to entertain Porthmadog in the Huws Gray Alliance, though a big question mark hangs over the game.

In ther Spar Mid Wales League Berriew and Carno are due to clash, while Abermule's match at Montgomery has a "good chance" of being on according to Monty boss Clive McNamee. There will be a pitch inspection at 10am.
