Angel and Crown set up big clash

23/11/2010 @ 07:02

The Angel and The Crown set up a vital clash in Newtown Sunday Football League next Sunday by both picking up maximum points at the weekend.

Whilst all Sunday League enthusiasts are looking forward to the big two clashing this Sunday, both protagonists warmed up with victories.

The league leaders, Angel Welshpool were on the road at Forden where an upset was on the cards, but the visitors did well to retain their one point lead at the top of the table thanks to a 5-2 victory. Scoring for the Angel were Neil Bebb (2), Tom Wilson, Luke Weaver and Adam Knight and replying for Forden were Andrew Davies and Joshua Gethin.

At Montgomery, a very comfortable 7-0 win for the Crown against their Elephant Wanderers visitors means they enhanced their goal difference aggregate to +84, a full 40 more than their Angel rivals, which is what will separate the sides should they tie at the end of the season.

The Crown goals were largely scored by Gareth Bromley who collected four, and their were supporting act strikes from Lee Jones, Tom Evans and James Langford. With the mouth watering clash between Angel and Crown this Sunday at The Flash, Welshpool a win for either side will have major benefits.

The Oak Llanidloes have three games in hand over third placed Elephant Wanderers and could well usurp them for that position by Christmas. Winningg 3-2 at home to the Red Lion last week, the Oak moved up to fourth with goals courtesy of Chris Davies, Geraint Jones and Daniel Goodman. Keeping the Red Lion in the match were goals from Emlyn Evans and Gareth Bean.

Another hefty defeat for the Angel Newtown as they went down 7-0 away to Churchstoke who climb above Forden as a consequence. Scoring the Churchstoke goals were Jamie Elsworth, Matt Owen, Jacob Sharman, Liam Taylor (2) and Huw Roberts (2). There was an own goal from the Angel to complete the scoring.

Abermule took a right old trouncing, despite taking a reasonably strong side to the Grapes where they were sent home 12-2 losers. Goals aplenty for Marc Foulkes (4), Stefan Rowlands (2), Drew Hughes (2) and one each for Alex Cookson, Barry Jarman, Chris Coverdale and Mark Hughes. Scoring for Abermule were Geoff Hogg and James Jaundrell.
