Neath Waiting For Slips From Top Two

19/11/2010 @ 12:12

As Newtown prepare to meet Neath tomorrow chairman Mike Jones predicts that the Eagles wont be far away from the honours at the end of the season.
"Neath lie 3rd in the table and clearly have title ambitions but, like the rest of us, will have been taken by surprise at Bangor's amazing start to the season," he said.
"I am certain that if the Farrar Road outfit and The New saints slip up, then Neath will be there to take full advantage.
"It is interesting that only the top three have a positive goal difference and with just 9 points between Aberystwth in 4th and Haverfordwest in 12th. It shows just how competitive this league is.
"Our encounter at The Gnoll last September turned into a Sunday stroll for Neath as they put five past us without reply. We will have to be at our best today if we are to get anything from the game. Our opponents don't always travel well so we are in with a chance.
"Our last two games have resulted in 2-1 defeats. It was agonising to go out of the Welsh Cup to an 88th minute goal against Bridgend. After a very poor start we did enough in the second half to win the match or at least take it into extra time but got
caught on the break.
"We can have no excuses as we had a home draw against non WPL opposition and still failed to win. The result was extremely disappointing for all the obvious reasons, ie; our supporters deserve better, pride in competing in the Cup and simply winning a winnable game.
"However, we have to take it on the chin and be patient, something this club has become
very good at over recent years. We put in a better performance at Bastion Gardens but can have few complaints against a Prestatyn side that is gaining in confidence after a shaky start.
"They have shown that any team that can put together two or three results will
rocket up the table. We are beginning to create more chances in recent games whilst remaining difficult to beat. We have to ensure we are in a decent position come mid-January when the split takes place.
