Jiws On Target But It's Another Defeat

Marc Lloyd WIlliams scored his first league goal since returning to Newtown, but it was too little, too late against Prestatyn at Bastion Gardens last night.
A 2-1 victory moved the Seasiders into the top six of the table for the first time this season and Newtown's only consolation was that there were defeats for both Bala and Haverfordwest too.

After a somewhat dour first half, the game burst into life on the hour mark when a Dave Hayes header was fumbled over the line by Robins' keeper Dave Roberts.

Town enjoyed the lion's share of possession all through the match and a second goal was inevitable - coming on 87 minutes when former Robin Ross Stephens chipped in a superb effort from 40 yards out catching Roberts off his line.

Marc Lloyd Williams pegged one back with a neat free kick in injury time but the points went to Neil Gibson's men which was no more than they deserved after a gutsy performance that made it six games unbeaten in all competitions.

The New Saints closed the gap on Welsh Premier leaders Bangor City with their first away win of the season at a rain-soaked Maes Tegid.
But they were grateful for a first-half Matty Williams hat-trick as Bala Town mounted a spirited second-half fightback before losing 4-3.
Williams scored his first after eight minutes when Chris Sharp nodded back a Tommy Holmes cross and added his second when the home defence failed to clear a left-wing cross.
The hosts hit back when Shaun Kelly played a one-two before firing a 25-yarder into the corner, before a cool finish from Chris Sharp restored the two goal cushion.
Bala missed their chance to reply when John Irving sent a penalty well wide of the target after Barry Hogan was adjudged to have handled and Sharp then provided for Williams to round off his hat-trick just before half-time.
But the Lakesiders dominated much of the second-half in a slog in the mud and were rewarded when Josh Macauley headed home from Irving's byline cross.
Chris Mason saw a shot hit the post and rebound into the arms of grateful keeper Paul Harrison, who hauled down Kelly deep into stoppage time for Macauley to further reduce the arrears from the spot.
Bala remain next-bottom after Neath ended a four-game winless streak with a 4-0 victory at The Gnoll over Haverfordwest, who still prop-up the table.
The Eagles had Paul Cochlin sent-off in the 20th-minute but a double whammy inside two minutes just past the hour mark from Craig Hughes and Kevin Cooper put the 10-men in control, with Paul Fowler and Andy Hill adding the others.
Keeper Mike Lewis was sent-off in the 32nd-minute as Carmarthen went down 3-1 at home to Port Talbot.
Matthew Rees had already given the Steelmen an eighth-minute lead, but the 10-men levelled through Darren Griffiths before Martin Rose quickly restored the away lead from the spot. And Liam McCreesh rounded-off the win with a third goal five minutes from time.
