Newtown produced their best performance of the season to completely outplay Aberystwyth without finding the finishing touch to win the game at Latham Park.
The return of the Welsh Premier's all-time leading scorer, Marc Lloyd Williams, failed to produce a goal for Newtown, who were held to a goal-less draw after dominating from srart to finish against a disappointing Aberystwyth side.
The Robins could have gone in at least 3-0 ahead at the after enjoyimng the most chances to win the game, with Lloyd Williams seeing his one-on-one effort on the half hour turned away by keeper Steven Cann.
Jamie Breese then had two chances blocked by Cann when goals looked certain.
Things got worse for the Seasiders after the break when Barry Morgan was booked and manager Alan Morgan was sent from the dug-out for comments to the referee.
Aber's only chance of the game came when Lewis Coadling headed wide on the stroke of haltf time from a Steff Edwards cross with homke keeper Dave Roberts not having a single shot to stop.
Outstanding for the Robins was man-of-the-match Shane Sutton in his new role at the heart of the defence.
