Local sides crash out

06/11/2011 @ 11:30
It was a largely disappointing day for local clubs as only Caersws will go into tomorrow’s hat for round three of the Welsh Cup where Welsh football’s heavyweights await.
Guilsfield, Montgomery and Llanidloes all crashed out at home, but the Bluebirds avoided a banana skin at Barmouth, returning 3-0 winners thanks to second half goals from Mark Griffiths, Scott Quigley and Graham Evans.
Guilsfield lost for the second time in two weeks to Llandudno, 3-1, while Llanidloes went down 2-0 to Huws Gray Alliance giants Gap Connah’s Quay. Montgomery’s adventure ended 7-3 at home to FC Cefn despite goals from Tom Evans (2) and Gaz Bromley.
Newtown join the Welsh Cup in the next round, and are proving to be a form team in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier after chalking up a fine 2-0 over Port Talbot yesterday.
A goal in each half did the damage with Max Penk’s superbly taken opener added to by substitute Luke Boundford eight minutes from time. Next up a trip to Prestatyn Town on Tuesday.
In the Huws Gray Alliance, Llanrhaeadr climbed the table following a comfortable 3-0 win over Rhos Aelwyd with Jamie Evans scoring either side of half time and striker Ben White adding a third later on.
In the Spar Mid Wales League, Waterloo Rovers saw their fine run come to an end at home to Tywyn/Bryncrug who won 3-2 while Mike Barton enjoyed a winning 2-1 return to management with Berriew at Aberystwyth University. Rhayader returned to the top with a 4-0 win at Llansantffraid Village. Dyffryn Banw lost 3-2 at home to Bow Street. Welshpool Town lost the Friday night fixture 4-1 at home to Carno despite going 1-0 up yet again.
In Division Two, Abermule chalked up a well needed 4-2 win on the road at Tregaron while Kerry came back from Aberdyfi with a 2-2 draw.
Llangedwyn continue to fly the Amateur League flag in the Central Wales Cup after seeing off Cardigan Town 5-3. Four Crosses and Llanfair United advanced over Presteigne and Hay St Mary’s respecitively but Meifod and Llanfyllin crashed out.
In the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League, Ed Leyland bagged a hat-trick as Llanrhaeadr Reserves won 4-1 at Churchstoke. Aled Hughes, Richard Davies and Mark Thomas helped Bettws beat Berriew Reserves 3-0 while Bryn Thomas and Rob Edwards scored as Llanfechain won 2-0 over Waterloo Reserves.
In Mitsubishi Division Two, Four Crosses Reserves were held 0-0 at Trefonen but the match of the day saw Waterloo Colts win 5-4 at Newtown Reserves. James Watkins, Matt Windsor
Shaun Roberts, Dave Jones and Aaron Hicks scored while Mark Salvatti (2), Joe Evans and Jake Sharman netter for the Robins.
