Double blow for Mule

28/10/2011 @ 02:33

Abermule have hit back at the doubters who are spreading rumours that the club is on the verge of folding its newly formed reserve side.

The side is preparing to host Meifod in the Spar League Cup having endured a mixed start to the season in Division Two, and this week they have been hit by the news that striker Steff Rowlands has departed for Llanidloes and Dan Baker has joined Newtown Reserves.

And on top of that, loose tongues have been condemning the reserve side to a premature death, having only formed in the summer.

“There are rumours going around that the Reserves have folded but this is not the case,” said club spokesperson Bryan Jarman. “We are a little low on numbers and losing these two players doesn’t help the club as a whole but we are continuing with two teams.”

Dingle neighbours Kerry travel to Welshpool Town tonight looking to spring a shock on the once mighty side which has picked up just five points so far this season after being saved from extinction in August.

The pick of tomorrow’s ties sees Llanfair United entertain Division One leaders Montgomery; Carno host Llansantffraid Village; Four Crosses entertain Llanfyllin. High flying Waterloo Rovers welcome Dolgellau having bolstered their already impressive squad with the signing of Llanfyllin striker Steve Laws.

Meanwhile, in the league above, Caersws will look to make it eight wins on the bounce in the Huws Gray Alliance when Llanrhaeadr travel to the Recreation Ground. Guilsfield will look to overcome the disappointment of losing to nine-man Llandudno when they entertain Mid Wales rivals Penrhyncoch.

Elsewhere, in the Amateur League, Caersws Reserves travel to Churchstoke while form side Guilsfield Reserves travel to Llansantffraid Reserves and Llangedwyn take their unbeaten record to Berriew Reserves. In Division Two, Four Crosses Reserves travel to Kerry Reserves.

MEANWHILE, Newtown will look to bounce back from last week’s lacklustre defeat to Aberystwyth with a trip to Bala tonight in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier.
