Pryce quits as Berriew boss

27/10/2011 @ 05:31

Neil Pryce has relinquished his managerial duties at Spar Division One heavyweights Berriew, but has indicated to club officials that he intends to stay at the club as a player.

Pryce broke the news to the players last night before they beat Aberystwyth University 2-1, ending a 12-month reign which started after he filled the void left by Russell Cadwallader’s departure to Guilsfield last season.

“I just decided that I want to concentrate on playing for the next couple of years,” he said. “It was a very difficult decision and I am grateful to the club for giving me the chance as manager. The players and committee have been very supportive.”

Berriew mounted a fantastic charge for the title last season but missed out on the pen-ultimate game of the season to Llanrhaeadr who were promoted. Key players departed in the summer and were not replaced, seeing Berriew compete in mid-table to date and prompting Pryce’s decision.

The club issued a statement this morning “thanking” Pryce for his “excellent contribution” and has immediately started its search for a replacement. Mike Pearce is expected to take charge for Saturday’s League Cup match at Aberaeron.
