Cobra maintained their winning start to the season by chalking up league win number seven to stay clear at the top of Division Two (North).
But the league leaders found the going tough against a Denbigh side who defended resolutely and were only 6-0 down at the break through a pair of Llew Williams penalties.
But Cobra stepped up the tempo early in the second half and turned a five-metre line-out into a driving maul from the forwards with No 8 Aled Davies eventually crashing over.
The Meifod wind played its part in the game though and Denbigh took advantage to put the hosts on their back foot with aerial bombardment dealt with superbly by the back three. Two penalties did reduce the arrears to 14-6 but Cobra struck back. Davies made a telling break and after some excellent rucking, the backs stretched the Denbigh defence and fast hands fed the ball to winger Richard Jones to score for the 19-6 victory.
Also in Division Two (North), Newtown faced the bottom club Wrexham and created some breathing space between the two with a 41-10 victory.
In Division Three (North), Welshpool found themselves 27-0 down at the break following some great play from hosts Menai Bridge, and despite ‘winning’ the second period, they lost 39-15 to slip into mid-table.
