Edmunds’ deal or no deal

Iain Edmunds is back in the news for being a player in demand after Llansantffraid Village lost a tug-of-war with Caersws to retain his services this week.

The Wales U19 international, who joined Llansantffraid from Shrewsbury Town in the summer, was the subject of a row with Guilsfield in August who were accused of approaching the player. An allegation which was later retracted.

But the talented winger is in demand again and has made the switch from the Spar Mid Wales League to the Huws Gray Alliance this weekend.

His departure thins the ranks at the Village whose manager Jamie Davies admits that it could be tough to get two sides out this weekend.

“He wanted to play at a higher standard and has opted for Caersws so we wish him well,” said Davies.

The signing is another boost for Caersws who are riding a wave of good form that has seen them move comfortably into mid-table and book a League Cup quarter final place against Cefn Druids. This weekend they travel to struggling Rhos Aelwyd.

Guilsfield, meanwhile, travel to Llandudno which has been a popular hunting ground in recent seasons. Llanrhaeadr hope to plug their leaky defence at home to high flying Flint Town United.

In the Spar Division One, Montgomery face a tough test to hold on to top spot when Carno visit, while Rhayader will put pressure on the top when they entertain Dyffryn Banw. Waterloo host the Aberystwyth students in fine form and neighbours Welshpool Town travel to surprise package Builth Wells. Llansantffraid Village go to Bow Street having beaten them last Saturday already.

In Division Two, Llanfair United travel to Aberaeron looking to make it eight wins from eight while leaders Knighton cross Radnorshire to Llandrindod Wells. Four Crosses bid to stay in touch at the top at home to Bont and welcome Tommy Lewis back to Foxon Manor. Kerry will hope their fine run continues at home to Aberdyfi while mid-table Abermule host Machynlleth. Meifod hit the road south to Presteigne and Llanfyllin host Rhosgoch.

In the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League, Llangedwyn’s 100% record will be tested at Llangedwyn in Honda Division One while leaders Caersws Reserves entertain Waterloo Reserves.

In Mitsubishi Division Two, there’s a Newtown derby when the Wanderers host the Reserves while leaders Four Crosses Reserves make the short journey to Trefonen.
