A new local golden boy

A young local archer has won double gold and a silver at the Archery GB Youth Festival which was held in Lilleshall, Shropshire, this week.

Alex Sillitoe-Price, from Tregynon, is only 13, but is already a part of the Wales set-up, and proved that he has the Olympic Games in his sights after a tremendous week across the border.

After qualifying for the individuals final on Monday, Alex, who has been shooting for two years, won silver with his teammates in the boys’ team event, before going one better and winning gold as a part of the Wales mixed team.

But he rounded off a successful week by winning the individual gold on Friday in straight sets.

Alex is a member of Hafren Foresters Archery Club, based in Caersws, and has been going to the Welsh Archery Academy in Cardiff through the winter. He has recently been short-listed for the Archery GB National Age Group Academy which puts him on the Olympic pathway.

He is home schooled, making it easier to accommodate his training schedule which includes a weekly training session at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
