Caersws Football Club have appointed former player and Team GB High Performance specialist Neil Lewis as their new chairman.

His appointment is a clear message of intent from a club that is keen to regain its place at the top table of Welsh domestic football.

As Chairman, Lewis will be responsible for providing the direction, structure and leadership required to deliver the club’s exciting new vision of becoming known as a community centred, family orientated club, with a high-performance mindset on and off the pitch.

“I played for Caersws FC as a Youth, Reserve and First Team player before going to study Coaching and Sport Science at the University of Liverpool,” said Lewis.

“My time at the club, as a young man, made a huge impression on me. I was a local lad from Bettws Cedewain who got the opportunity to play in the League of Wales, with other local lads, many of whom went on to play in Europe.

“But what I remember most was the warmth, community spirit and family feel of the club. I have been privileged that since leaving University I worked in professional football with the likes of Watford, Crystal Palace and Luton Town, and more recently in Olympic Sports for Team GB, across the last four Olympic games.

“Having returned to live in the area in recently, I reconnected with the club as a first team coach assisting Luke Williams and Mark Griffiths.

“I strongly believe that my experiences and knowledge of how to succeed in High Performance Sport can be combined with the strong community and family ethos of Caersws FC, to create a club which will make the community proud to support us.

“We have great momentum after winning the league last year, but we know the step up to tier 2 is going to be challenging.

“We have made some great new signings that fit our player recruitment strategy and hope to sign more before the end of the window. I would encourage local football enthusiasts to come down to the Rec this season to experience the wonderful hospitality and enjoy a great brand of football.

“I would like thank Peter Harding for all his hard work in recent years and for the current committee for giving me the opportunity to lead this prestigious village club with a such proud history in Welsh Football.

“We aspire to be the best version of Caersws FC, and I firmly believe that by working with the community, local business and football talent, we have a plan that can return Caersws FC to tier 1 of Welsh football.”
