Some action, but weather dominates local cricket

JC Balt (38) top scored as Newtown were frustrated by the weather at Bomere Heath where they set a target of 155-8 in the Mansfield Sports Group Division One.

The hosts were 21-1 in reply when rain stopped play.

Welshpool were one of the few teams to beat the weather at the weekend, but they couldn’t beat Willey in Mansfield Sports Group Division Three.

After being put into bat, Tom Bowen made 55 to guide Pool through to 161-8, no problem for the hosts rushed home in the 28th over for a five-wicket win.

Montgomery earned 11 crucial points at Division Three leaders Broseley after their match was abandoned midway through the second innings.

Ed Bennett earlier took 5-69 as the hosts amassed 198-9, but as the storm clouds gathered, Monty held out on 117-6 with Aaron Ruff-Cock (38) top scoring.

Guilsfield & Llandrinio had got off to a strong start at home to Condover in Division Four, but the heavens opened at 55-0 from 10 overs with Andy Flann (36no) looking in ominous form once again. They remain in second.

Newtown II bowled Bomere Heath II out for just 62, meaning they could secure victory before the weather turned. Jonathan Davies and Riley Bellamore took three wickets each.

Andrew Jones (59) and Daniel Lewis (48) put Llanidloes in a strong position on 189-4 at Division Five leaders Church Stretton, before weather halted them in their tracks with the reply on 19-0.

Division Six matches involving Welshpool II and Montgomery II were abandoned, as was the Division Eight match featuring Guilsfield & Llandrinio II.
