Prominent local businessman Nick Evans has been appointed as the new Chair of Newtown Football Club.

His appointment was made at last night’s Annual Meeting and he will take the reins from the departing Howard Ellis who has completed five successful years in the role.

In a statement, the club said Evans, the man behind local construction company EvaBuild, will be responsible for overseeing its operations, setting its strategic direction, and ensuring the fulfilment of its mission to foster excellence both on and off the pitch.

He takes on a club in a strong position in the Cymru Premier with its Academy recently achieving Category A status.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Chairman at Newtown AFC,” said Evans. “This club has a rich history and a dedicated and growing fan base, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to its continued success.

“I firmly believe that by working together with the community and local stakeholders, we can achieve great things and further cement Newtown AFC’s position in tier 1 of Welsh football.”

The outgoing Chair, Ellis, expressed his confidence in Evans’ ability to lead the club to new heights.

“It has been a privilege to serve as Chairman of Newtown AFC,” said Ellis. “I have no doubt that Nick’s expertise and dedication will drive the club towards great achievements. I wish him all the best in his new role and look forward to seeing Newtown AFC flourish under his guidance.”
