Holders Guilsfield crashed out of the Huws Gray Alliance Cup and newcomers Llanrhaeadr were also handsomely beaten, leaving Caersws the only local side flying the flag after their winning streak continued.
Guilsfield lost 6-1 at Rhyl, despite Will Thomas cancelling out Rhyl’s early advantage. But the powerhouses were 4-1 up at the turn to pave the way for round two.
Llanrhaeadr found themselves 4-0 down at half time to Porthmadog before losing 7-0 to the north west Wales side.
But Caersws were the big local winners, beating Flint Town United away thanks to goals from Graham Evans and the impressive Scott Quigley.
Llanfair United, now without the influential Rich Astley and Ross Frame, went out of the FAW Trophy at home to Llanrwst who cruised into a 3-0 lead. Geraint Jones and Daniel Jones reduced the arrears and just as it looked like United could force extra time, Llanrwst added a killer fourth to win 4-2.
Four Crosses went out too, losing 3-2 in a bad tempered game against Wrexham-based Brymbo and Berriew returned from Pwllheli empty handed after a 3-2 defeat James Langford and Christian Webster scoring. But Carno will represent Montgomeryshire in the next round after beating Llandyrnog United 1-0.
Montgomery suffered a second consecutive defeat in the Spar Division One on the road to Builth Wells, but Waterloo Rovers extended their impressive run to seven unbeaten matches with a 1-0 win at Tywyn Bryncrug to go third.
Ten-man Welshpool Town picked up a point at Dyffryn Banw with skipper Scott Jones giving the Lilywhites a first half lead. Ben Hendleman was sent off for a second yellow and Banw leveled from the resulting free-kick after 70 minutes.
Llansantffraid Village have found their rhythm and chalked up a 4-1 win at home to Bow Street.
In Division Two, Kerry sneaked further up the table with a 3-1 win over Tregaron but Llanfyllin fell 2-1 at Machynlleth and Meifod lost 4-0 at home to league leaders Knighton.
In the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League, Llanidloes Reserves stepped up their Honda Division One title defence with a 3-1 win at Waterloo Reserves while outside bet, Guilsfield Reserves, beat Bettws 5-0 with goals from Barry Haralambus (2), Sam Griffiths, Luke Francis and Phil Turnbull.
Churchstoke won 4-0 at Berriew Reserves with strikes from Daniel Hind, Adam Nottingham (2) and Kofi Sasu while Llanrhaeadr Reserves won 3-2 at Llanfechain with Mike Roberts, Ed Layland and Boris Martinez on the scoresheet.
Leaders Caersws Reserves were in Llanidloes Town Montgomeryshire League Cup, Round Two action against Abermule Reserves and won 5-0.
In Mitsubishi Division Two, Llanfair Reserves won 3-0 at Llandrinio while two from Shaun Roberts helped Waterloo Reserves beat Kerry Reserves 3-2. Newtown Reserves won 3-2 at Trefonen thanks to a Marcus Ashley hat-trick and Newtown Wanderers drew 2-2 with Morda Reserves after Martin Lewis and Jamie Smart netter.
