Newtown are the early pace setters in the MSG Shropshire Division One after a nailbiting victory at Wellington II, the only game in the division to beat the weather.
After being told to field first, Newtown ripped into the host’s line-up with Ally Laird leading the way with 5-31 to reduce them to 117 all out.
The reply was going well, with openers Matt Knight (43) and John Anthony (32) laying the foundations, but a batting collapse followed, meaning Laird (14no) and Craig Davies (13no) had to forge a 24-run last wicket partnership to secure the win.
In Division Three, Welshpool saw their match cancelled for the second week in a row, but Montgomery bounced back from an opening day defeat to beat Wem II at home.
Opener Andrew Barker carried his bat for a patient 60 not out and Sam Williams (52) added some weight late in the innings to steer Monty through to 196-7.
Wem were never on the pace, and eventually finished on 125-8 with Aaron Ruff-Cock (3-16) and Charlie Kinsey (3-21) doing the most damage. Data-Ad-Format="Fluid" Data-Ad-Client="Ca-Pub-7108709390343245" Data-Ad-Slot=“2963239955">

But Steve Griffiths (20no) and Rhodri Parfitt (14no) steadied the ship and with the match finely balanced at 61-6, Mother Nature had her say and sent the teams early to the Oak with nine points apiece. Guilsfield remain top of the league.

The visitors were bowled out for 62, allowing openers Mike Bellamore (41no) and Danny Foulkes (16no) to secure a 10-wicket win.
It was edge-of-the-seat stuff at Welshpool II where the hosts secured a low scoring Division Six victory.
The day started well, with Welshpool reducing Cound II to 59 all out with openers Allan Williams (3-9) and Harry Bowen (4-8) in superb form.
But the hosts made hard work of the chase, eventually getting across the line for the loss of eight wickets.
Montgomery II fell well short of Knockin & Kinnerley’s first innings of 161-6, eventually being bowled out for 79-7.
In Division Eight, Guilsfield & Llandrinio II’s match at Beacon III was cancelled.
