Caersws on a roll

Caersws and Guilsfield have hit a healthy run of form in the Huws Gray Alliance which continued with home victories on Saturday.

The Bluebirds in particular are the league’s form team. Deducted three points in midweek under unfortunate circumstances, Caersws made up for it in emphatic style by thumping troubled Llangefni Town 8-2.

A Scott Williams double helped Caersws lead 2-1 at half time but once Graham Evans added a third shortly after the break, the turbo clicked in. Williams completed his hat-trick and Rob Evans, Scott Quigley and Jack Hughes also weighed in. And there was more good news with striker Neil Mitchell snapping his goal drought in the 75th minute.

Guilsfield too are finding their rhythm with a third win on the trot against Ruthin. And it was the summer signings that did the damage with Ian Probert, Danny Barton and Will Thomas on the mark.

Llanrhaeadr suffered a 4-0 defeat at leaders Rhyl who were 3-0 up at the break.

Montgomery stay top of the Spar Mid Wales Division One despite losing their battle of the giants 3-1 to Rhayader.

Welshpool Town went ahead for the second week running but found themselves 4-1 down by half time at Newbridge. A Mike Cockram screamer made it 4-2 but a late penalty condemned Town to a 5-2 defeat.

Waterloo Rovers continued their decent run with a 2-0 win over Bow Street while Berriew saw off Tywyn Bryncrug 2-1 with goals from skipper Mark Probert and Adam Williams.

Carno won 2-0 at home to Builth Wells while Llanidloes kept the pressure on at the top with a 6-2 win at Aberystwyth University. Dyffryn Banw shared six goals with Dolgellau. Llansantffraid Village were not in action but registered a 1-0 midweek win over the Aber students.

In Division Two, late drama ensured Llanfair United kept their 100 per cent record intact when Paul Griffiths slotted home the winner with two minutes to go for a 3-2 win at Aberdyfi.

Four Crosses kept in touch at the top with a superb 5-0 win at Tregaron. It was a win that manager Nick Popyk described as the best since he took over last season.

Abermule returned from Presteigne with a point after Dave Anthony netted. Llanfyllin picked up a point from their 2-2 draw with Llandrindod Wells while Kerry edged out improving Meifod 1-0. But Knighton are looking strong at the top, beating Bont 7-1.

In the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League, Llangedwyn made it five wins out of five in Honda Division One with a 3-1 win over Guilsfield Reserves thanks toRichard Evans, Darren Edwards and an own goal. Caersws Reserves continued to impress with a 4-1 win at Bettws with goals from Craig Stephens, Gareth Owen, Drew Reynolds and Callum Laird.

Waterloo Rovers and Llansantffraid Reserves shared the points after Bryn Jones’ penalty for the Saints was cancelled out by a Shaun Roberts strike. Daniel Hind (2) and Dave Haycock gave Churchstoke a welcome 3-1 win over Carno Reserves.

There were two big derbies in Mitsubishi Division Two with Abermule Reserves claiming the Dingle honours with a 2-1 win over Kerry Reserves. Paul Jandrell and Andrew Coppin were on target. The border derby went Four Crosses Reserves’ way when Craig Emberton netted the only goal against Llandrinio.

Llyr Thomas bagged four in Llanfair Reserves’s dramatic 5-4 win over Trefonen while Morda Reserves put six past Waterloo Colts without reply.

In the Montgomeryshire Cup, penalties were required to separate Newtown Rangers and Llanfechain with Rangers going through 3-2 on spot kicks after a goalless 120 minutes.
