100% records set to be tested

Montgomery and Llanfair United face tough tests to retain their remarkable starts to the season which has seen them remain unbeaten and their managers being awarded.

Montgomery manager Clive McNamee is no stranger to accolades and would be the first to dedicate his Division One award to his team, but he faces a stiff challenge from title rivals Rhayader this weekend.

And Llanfair manager Rhys Stephens has enjoyed a blistering start to his reign but has lost star midfielder Rich Astley who has departed for a round-the-world trip. They face a tricky match at Aberdyfi who will look to bounce back from a shock defeat at Meifod last week.

Elsewhere in the Spar Mid Wales League, Welshpool Town have a tough journey to Newbridge while Berriew entertain Tywyn Bryncrug on the back of three unbeaten matches.

In Division Two, Four Crosses have signed ex-Newtown midfielder Luke Smith in a bid to remain among the pace-setters at Tregaron Turfs. Meifod will look to build on their first win of the season with a battle at Kerry. Abermule, with manager’s son Dyfrig Rees signing from Kerry, travel to Presteigne.

Newtown, meanwhile, face a tough trip and a number of ex-players when they travel to Airbus UK in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier. Newtown travel in good spirits though after their second win of the season last week.

In the Huws Gray Alliance, Guilsfield will look to build on two straight wins at home to Ruthin Town, while Caersws entertain Llangefni Town. Llanrhaeadr travel to leaders Rhyl.

In the Montgomeryshire Amateur League, Llangedwyn’s 100 per cent start will be tested against improving Guilsfield Reserves while leaders Caersws Reserves go to Bettws.

In Division Two, there are two local derbies with the Reserve sides of Kerry and Abermule locking horns while newly formed Llandrinio square up to Four Crosses Reserves.
