Caersws deducted three points

Caersws, currently enjoying a superb run of results, have been delivered a hammer blow after three points were deducted for playing an ineligible player.

And in what looks like a genuine misunderstanding compounded by key officials being on holiday at the time, the Bluebirds have said they won’t be appealing despite appearing to be the innocent party.

They were found guilty of playing Scott Quigley, not knowing that the TNS Academy player had already signed forms with its senior side in the Welsh Premier for this season. It meant that when his Caersws form was faxed through to the league well before the 5pm deadline, the Bluebirds honestly believed the player was clear to make his debut at Flint the following day.

Manager Mike Evans said: “Mike (Davies - manager) at TNS gave me permission to sign two of his academy lads on the Thursday – Scott Quigley and Sean Ellis – so I managed to sign Scott on the Friday but Sean had already gone home to Birmingham for the weekend.

“The TNS secretary was on holiday but Mike didn’t realise they were signed on for his senior team and gave his blessing for them to come to Caersws. Scott himself thought the only form he had signed was to allow him to play in the college league. It only became apparent a few days later when the TNS secretary returned from holiday and raised the alarm that Scott was already signed for the TNS first team.”

Caersws have the right to appeal to the FAW but Evans said it was “not worth it”.

“We have done everything right from our side. Mike has apologised and stood up for us at the hearing and even the league sympathised but unfortunately the law says we were in the wrong and we lose three points.”
