Sutton stunner revives Robins

Newtown clocked up their second win of the season thanks to a cracking late strike from Shane Sutton which secured a 2-1 win over Afan Lido at Latham Park.

The victory was only their second in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier but ended a miserable run of form and has eased the pressure on boss Bernie McNally.

Sutton, one of the outstanding performers for the Robins over the last 12 months, fired home from 25 yards in the 81st minute to spark the celebrations.

Newtown took the lead in the ninth minute when Nick Rushden tucked home the ball from the edge of the box, but Lido were on level terms in the 72nd minute from the penalty spot.

Lido looked the more likely to go on and win before Sutton’s late show gave Newtown a well-earned three points.
