Montgomery and Llanfair United are already looking firm favourites to win the Spar Division One and Two titles after inching single goal victories on the road.

Montgomery’s incredible start extended to seven wins with a hard earned victory at Tywyn Bryncrug while a single goal was enough to continue Llanfair’s winning start at fellow promotion hopefuls Llandrindod Wells.

Also in Division One, Llanidloes returned to form with a 6-0 trouncing of Llansantffraid Village while Waterloo Rovers shared an incredible 10 goals with Newbridge.

Dyffryn Banw shared six goals at Bow Street while Berriew eventually saw off a plucky Welshpool Town 3-1 after Mike Cockram had pulled the Lilywhites level.

In Division Two, Four Crosses suffered a promotion blow with a 3-1 defeat at home to Aberaeron while Kerry edged past Bont 2-1. Llanfyllin and Abermule shared six goals but Meifod suffered a 6-0 mauling at home to Rhosgoch.

In the Huws Gray Alliance, Guilsfield celebrated their first win of the season with a 3-1 verdict at bottom club Penycae thanks to two goals in the last five minutes. Will Thomas seems to have found his rhythm with a brace and Ian Probert added the killer third in the 88th minute.

Caersws returned from Llandudno with three points thanks to a superb 2-1 win with new signing Scott Quigley scoring the all-important second after Graham Evans had put the Bluebirds ahead from the spot. Ten-man Llanrhaeadr fell to Buckley Town 4-2 despite twice being ahead through Ben White and Dan Kelly in the first half.

It was a day of Cup drama for the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League clubs with several games settled by extra time, and even penalties.

The big game of the day saw Newtown’s two sides – Reserves and Wanderers – clash in the Tanners Town Cup and it was settled by penalties after Mark Salvati’s brace for the Reserves was cancelled out by Dave Rimmer and Dafydd Evans. Extra time couldn’t separate them and the Reserves got through 3-2 from spot kicks.

In the Town Cup’s other tie, Llanidloes Reserves beat Waterloo Colts 5-1 thanks largely to a Jordan Jones hat-trick.

In the Llansantffraid Village Cup, Rob McGill (2) and Luke Weaver helped Guilsfield Reserves beat Kerry Reserves 3-2. Luke Mumford scored Kerry’s goals.

Four Crosses Reserves beat Trefonen 5-2 after extra time with Mark Pemberton scoring a hat-trick, and the extra period was needed to separate Llanfechain and Llansantffraid Reserves with Llanfechain running out 6-3 winners. Bryn Thomas and Lloyd Meredith scored braces for Llanfechain.

Extra time and penalties were required for Morda Reserves to advance over Llandrinio after their match finished 1-1.
Adam Nottingham scored four of Churchstoke’s 6-0 haul at Berriew Reserves and Caersws Reserves needed extra time to see off side Llanrhaeadr Reserves 3-1.

Improving Bettws thumped Llangedwyn 4-1 with a hat-trick from Alun Williams and one from Mark Thomas. Carno Reserves advanced after Abermule Reserves withdrew.
