Caersws pulled off the result of the weekend by knocking highly fancied Prestatyn out of the Nathaniel MG Cup on Saturday.

Handed a wildcard entry into this season’s competition the Bluebirds were not expected to get past the first round when Prestatyn emerged as their opponents but they held their nerves in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Dan Atkins gave Prestatyn the lead but Carl Harris levelled and goalkeeper Jack Perry was the hero of the hour saving from the spot to see Caersws go through 5-3 on penalties.

Llanidloes are also through to the second round, beating Pontardawe 2-1 in South Wales.

Drew Reynolds netted early in the second half only for Lewis Reed to level. Connor Bird got the all-important winner for the Daffs.

Forden were the pick of the bunch in the MMP Central Wales League North fixtures, beating Barmouth 4-2 in a feisty affair.

Jake O’Donnell gave the villagers a 2-0 lead before Joe Soar reduced the lead on 66 minutes. Steve Roberts restored the two goal cushion before Paul Roberts gave the seasiders fresh hope. Those hopes were dashed when Roberts netted a spectacular fourth to secure the points.

Montgomery Town opened their campaign with a bang as Tom Evans struck twice in a 4-1 win at Tywyn Bryncrug.

Lee Jones, Robbie Hartshorn and Evans struck to give Monty a comfortable interval lead before the hosts reduced the arrears through Ryan Dean.
