Bluebirds face player probe

16/09/2011 @ 02:42

Meanwhile, Caersws face a nervy week after unwittingly playing Scott Quigley two weeks ago before his loan transfer from TNS had been rubber stamped.

The player was withdrawn from the win over Guilsfield last week with the club pleading its innocence. Club secretary Gareth Lloyd says the forms were faxed to the league secretary on time but the glitch has appeared due to the secretary apparently being away. The case is being investigated by the league but if found guilty, Caersws could lose three points.

Meanwhile, this weekend they face Huws Gray Alliance newcomers and strugglers Penycae while Guilsfield, in desperate need of a morale boosting win, take on Porthmadog in a repeat of last season’s League Cup final. Llanrhaeadr go to GAP Connah’s Quay tonight.

Meanwhile in the Spar set-up, pre-season talk may have centred around Montgomeryshire’s new ‘Galácticos’ side Llanfair United, but Four Crosses have stepped forward to give the dream team plenty to think about.

Last season’s Spar Mid Wales Division Two proved to be an instant success, but this season it has been said by many to be a foregone conclusion with Llanfair already the champions elect following their astute off-season acquisitions.

And while the table after a month shows United are unbeaten after four, it is Four Crosses they are all looking up to after five wins from seven have underlined their promotion credentials.

“Things are going ok at the moment but there is always still room for improvement,” said manager Nick Popyk. “It is good to see this season that we have players capable of scoring across the whole side whereas last season we were reliant on two or three players.”

But Popyk, whose side, like many, are in FAW Trophy action this weekend, is trying his best to keep his players’ feet on the ground and has banned promotion talk from the dressing room.

“It’s hard to call. There are a lot of good teams in this League: Llanfair, Knighton, Llandrindod Wells amongst others have all had great starts. Our position is not a true reflection at the moment as all the teams have played differing amounts of games. We are just taking each game as it comes and working on little targets. At the moment we are just hoping to go through this month unbeaten and then assess the next month.”

While Four Crosses travel to Castell Alun Colts, Welshpool Town will look to build on last week’s improved performance at Amlwch Town in the north tip of Anglesey, although several key men are missing.

Carno entertain Halkyn United while Berriew, finding the going tough in Division One, welcome FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay. Llanfair United host Barmouth, Waterloo Rovers welcome Llanrwst United while struggling Llanfyllin travel to FC Cefn.

In the handful of Spar games, Montgomery entertain Bow Street in Division One while both Kerry and Abermule are at home in Division Two.
