Newtown won a dramatic penalty shoot-out to go through to the second qualifying round of the European Conference League after a nerve-jangling win over HB Torshavn tonight.
The Robins were looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in the Faroes and proved Manager Chris Hughes to be right in his claim that they were in with a great chance of winning the home leg by storming into a 2-0 half time lead at Park Hall, Oswestry.
Henry Cowens broke the deadlock on 35 minutes and on the stroke of half time Fumpa Mwandwe, who was playing his last game for the club, doubled the lead.
But Torshavn hit back in the second half through Paetur Petersen to make it 2-2 on aggregate and take the game into a strength sapping 30 minutes of extra time.
There were no goals in the added time so the game went into a sudden death penalty shoot-out which the Robins won 4-2.
