Newtown went down 1-0 to HB Torshavn of the Faroes in the Europa Conference League tonight but are still very much in the tie.
A single second half goal gave the home side the advantage for the second leg at Park Hall, Oswestry next week but they will face a more attacking Robins side who will be confident of turning the result around.
Torshavn had most of the possession in the first half as Newtown struggled with the pace.
Robins keeper Dave Jones was rarely tested but tipped one effort from Adrian Justinusson over the bar and palmed another effort from Peter Peterson to safety, while Craig Williams made a goal saving challenge and then Jones was forced to punch away two corners from under the bar on the stroke of half time.
Newtown opened the second half brightly with Aaron Williams causing problems with a long throw but they were soon back under pressure with Jones called on to punch away another corner.
Robles created Newtown’s first real chance on the hour, dragging his shot wide from 12 yards but six minutes later the home side went ahead when a right wing corner was met at the near post by Wardum.
Introducing substitute Mwandwe changed the game and Newtown were pressing for an equaliser in the closing minutes.
