Newtown feel the Pain

15/09/2011 @ 11:15

Newtown Cricket Club slumped to a heavy defeat at Worfield despite a plucky third-wicket stand in the Marstons Shropshire Premier League.

Newtown lost the early wicket of Joe Davies but Dave Laird (14) and Ricky Davies (29) managed to dig deep and offer some resistance. But after they were dismissed, it went downhill as Newtown were all out for 91 off 30 overs. Ally Laird chipped in with a late 15.

Opening quick bowler Nick Pain did the damage with 7-30 from his 15 overs.

In reply, Worfield eased to victory without a wicket being lost.

It was a dreadful day for the second string who were dismissed for just 36 against Worfield II.

Newtown were set a daunting target of 223-8 to chase after Danny Wilson had taken 3-58. But it went horribly wrong, with only Rowan Meek (10) reaching double figures. Six players failed to score and the innings ended after 12.3 overs.
