“Get ruthless against Bluebirds”

09/09/2011 @ 04:07

Guilsfield manager Russell Cadwallader has ordered his misfiring troops to get ruthless if they are to avoid a second successive relegation scrap in the Huws Gray Alliance.

Despite several impressive signings in the summer, including established sharp shooters Will Thomas and Danny Barton, Guilsfield have suffered four defeats from five opening matches and face a Caersws side this weekend which is determined to shake off its own sluggish start.

And Cadwallader admits that the going is tough but is confident in his own ability to turn things around and the ability of the side which, on paper, has the potential to push for a top eight spot.

“This season has been both disappointing and frustrating, we have yet to have a settled squad or find a system that suits the group of players we have,” admits Cadwallader. “We have also been unlucky to come across some of the better teams in the league, and when you’re not getting results this can affect confidence. What we need to show now is some real character, it’s easy to play when you’re winning week in week out, but it’s a sign of real character when things aren’t going your way and you show the resolve and commitment to get yourself out of a bad situation. All of our players realise it’s their responsibility to do this and hopefully we can start our recovery on Saturday.

“I don’t think there’s ever a good time to play Caersws away but I think now might be a particularly bad time. Mickey will have been hurt by conceding six and eight-goal defeats and I am sure he will have told his team in no uncertain terms that this is unacceptable.”

Cadwallader hopes to sign two full backs to end his summer signing spree but will be without the injured Ian Probert and Barry Harralumbous while Jon Jones is on holiday.

“I am confident that we have made some good signings this season and that we are capable of pushing on for a mid table spot, all we need is some ruthlessness in front of goal and a little luck and I’m sure the confidence will flood back.”

Caersws meanwhile have bolstered their ranks with the loan signings of defender Sean Ellis and striker Scott Quigley from TNS.

Manager Mike Evans believes his side have been too 'gung-ho' at times this season and expects a more professional approach against his Montgomeryshire rivals this weekend.

Llanrhaeadr will expect another big crowd as the villagers are fast building a reputation as a tough team to beat.

Two draws and a victory from five games have been a healthy return for the Spar Division One champions with Penrhyncoch providing familiar opposition this weekend. Manager Mario Iaquinta selects from a full squad for the first time this season.

In the Spar Division One, Welshpool manager Dave Jones says his season’s season starts in earnest against Bow Street.

The new-look Lilywhites have endured four tough matches in 14 days to launch their new era following their 11th hour saving from extinction but it hasn’t been easy, with 24 goals leaked but a point on the board.

But three of those teams occupy the league’s top three places and Jones will be demanding a response against the seasiders at Maesydre.

Berriew will look to get their season on track at home to Newbridge while high flying Montgomery entertain Dolgellau. Waterloo Rovers travel to Builth Wells and Carno face Dyffryn Banw.

Division Two leaders Four Crosses will be confident of points at struggling Presteigne while Abermule, also looking threatening early season, travel to Knighton. Kerry go to Tregaron and Llanfyllin face a long trip to Talgarth.

The JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League Cup kicks off, with Llangedwyn facing Bettws in the pick of the ties and Waterloo Rovers Reserves entertaining Llanfechain.
