Early goals punish Robins

Newtown are struggling to break the losing habit following an encouraging midweek display at home to Prestatyn which saw them left empty handed once again.

Still reeling from Saturday’s controversial defeat, Newtown adopted a bright approach against a free-scoring Prestatyn side who struggled for possession for long periods of the game.

But it was two defensive lapses inside the first 20 minute undid Bernie McNally’s men who are already finding themselves involved in a releagation scrap.

Paul O’Neill put the North Walians ahead after eight minutes and Steve Rogers added a second after 20, leaving the Robins with a massive hill to climb. They did rattle the visitors’ bar in the second half before Zac Evans’ late goal did give some hope, but it soon faded as Newtown slumped to their fourth defeat on the bounce.
