High flyers Montgomery Town have enjoyed a sensational start to life in the top flight of Mid Wales football, but the manager says his side had better pull its socks up!
Top of the league and scoring goals for fun, promoted Montgomery remain unbeaten as they enter the Welsh Cup this weekend brimming with confidence.
But Clive McNamee is not happy, saying their passing games has eluded them and his side has “gotten away” with a couple of wins.
“It's always nice to get away with a couple of wins but I think a start is 10 or 12 games so we will see where we are then,” said the experienced boss. “We are not at our best yet and we are not happy with our passing game which seems to have eluded us. We have had to change our approach a little with the loss of both widemen Tony (Meredith) and Stuey (Buckley-Robins) from last season. It will take us a while to adjust but we'll get there.
Montgomery have brought in Dan Bowen from Berriew to add some steel to the squad which McNamee admits is thin in numbers.
Another manager looking for improvement is Jamie Davies at Llansantffraid Village who were held at home by the new-look Welshpool Town side on Monday, seeing them slip further off the Division pace.
“All credit to Welshpool for getting a decent team at such short notice,” said Davies, who’s side goes to Gwalchmai in the cup. “We had our chances but they could have nicked it in the end so very happy looking back.”
Also in the Welsh Cup, Carno go to Llangollen Town and Division Two hot shots Llanfair United will be tested at Holyhead Hotspur. Berriew travel to Chirk AAA.
Meanwhile in the Huws Gray Alliance, Guilsfield look to break their home hoodoo when newcomers Conwy United travel to Montgomeryshire.
The side suffered a poor return of home points last season and were held by Llanrhaeadr last week but with Danny Barton returning to add some fire power up front, they will be hoping for more.
Caersws will dust themselves down from last week’s shock 8-1 mauling at home to Rhyl when they travel to Flint. Geraint Lewis, who was sent off last week, will be missing but defenders Jacob Smith and Jack Hughes return to the squad.
The Llanrhaeadr adventure continues at Ruthin Town with one experienced head – Adam Burgess – coming in for another – Emyr Roberts – who is unavailable.
In Spar Division One, Welshpool Town travel to high flying Rhayader while Llanfyllin, Kerry and Meifod are all in Division Two action.
There’s a full round of JT Montgomeryshire Amateur League action but officials are still awaiting to hear whether troubled Forden will be fulfilling their first home fixture after rumours of them folding emerged this week.
