Newtown marked the club’s 1,000th game in top-flight Welsh football by sharing the points with Cardiff Met for the second week running.

The clubs drew 1-1 in the capital last week but under difficult conditions at Latham Park today neither side could find a way through and the game finished 0-0.

There was an impressive debut for The Robins’ number-two goalkeeper Max Williams, who arrived from Salford in the close season and mareked the occasion with a clean sheet.

Guilsfield put up a tremendous fight at Park Hall today before going out of the Welsh FA Cup to The New Saints.

The villagers defied the huge gap between themselves and the runaway JD Cymru Premier League side before bravely going down 2-0 in the quarter final tie.

It took The New Saints until first half injury time to find a breakthrough from John Routledge and Guilsfield were in with a shout until Ben Clarke made it 2-0 in the 78th minute.

The other quarter final results were:

Penybont FC 3 Taffs Well 2

Bala Town 2 Aberwytwyth 1

Connah’s Quay Nomads 0 Colwyn Bay 2
