Welshpool Town earned an unlikely point at Llansantffraid Village, as the Spar Mid Wales League became one of the best supported in the country over the weekend.

Sunday and Monday’s matched pushed the average per game watched by the Groundhoppers to close to 300 spectators as Mid Wales football enjoyed a collective financial boost of thousands of pounds.

First up on Bank Holiday Monday for the football fanatics who watch games from across the country was an early kick off at Llansantffraid where Welshpool Town cancelled out an early Saints penalty just before half time.

A crowd well over 300 then watched the final match of the weekend last night at Waterloo Rovers where Montgomery are proving unstoppable with a 4-2 win.

Sandwiched in between, Four Crosses got back on winning tracks in Division Two with a thumping 8-3 win at Meifod. Chris Bishop banged in four and Paul Hughes added a brace.

In Sunday’s staggered kick-offs, Dyffryn Banw lost 1-0 at Builth Wells while Carno are showing signs of title form with a 3-2 win at Rhayader.
