Town undone in the last 10

28/08/2011 @ 11:53

Two goals in the last 10 minutes condemned Newtown to a 2-0 defeat at home to Bala Town in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier.

The Robins looked to be good value for a draw, or possibly pinching a win, as the match entered the late stages but goals from Steve Brown and Chris Mason in the final minute saw them finish empty handed.

The beer was flowing last night in Llanrhaeadr after a tremendous fightback and a last minute equaliser saw them secure a point from their first ever home match in the Huws Gray Alliance.

The Waterfallmen faced a much-fancied Porthmadog who were looking good after cruising into a 2-0 lead after 52 minutes.

But the village side are starting to show the spirit that saw them go up last season as Mid Wales Champions and hit back through a double strike from marksman Jamie Evans.

But when Craig Roberts put Porth back in front six minutes from time, defeat was looking likely until Ben White struck at the death to send the masses home happy.

It wasn’t good news elsewhere for the local clubs as Caersws suffered a disappointing 8-1 defeat at home to title favourites Rhyl and Guilsfield went down 2-1 at Flint Town United with Jon Jones scoring their goal in the final two minutes.

In the Spar Mid Wales League, Llanidloes won the battle at the top 3-1 at Berriew in front of a crowd of 300 while Tywyn Bryncrug won 2-1 at Bow Street.

In Division Two, Llanfair marched on with a 3-1 win at Bont while Abermule went down 5-2 at Aberdyfi. Llanfyllin enjoyed a point following their 3-3 draw with Presteigne.
