Newtown will enter the festive season in second place in the JD Cymru Premier League.
The Robins beat close rivals Flint Town 2-0 at Latham Park to put themselves firmly in the chase for a Europa Cup slot – but they remain 12 points adrift of runaway leaders The New Saints, who beat Penybont 3-2.
An untidy opening half hour saw four yellow cards brandished before Aaron Williams gave the Robins a 36th minute goal from the penalty spot.
Flint’s hopes of going second themselves were hit in the 56th minute when Mike Wilde was shown a straight red card and the 10 men were soon 2-0 down when Jake Walker found the target.
Llanidloes won a seven goal thriller 4-3 against Conwy Borough with all the goals coming in a frantic second half. The Daffs netted through Luke Boundford (2), Dafydd Carruthers and A. Evans.
