Hafren Cycling Club formed the largest contingent at last Sunday’s 117 mile Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride from Welshpool to Caerphilly.
Seventeen riders from the club, encompassing Welshpool, Newtown and Llanidloes, joined others from across the UK to ride what will be Stage 4 of the main Tour of Britain road cycle race taking place between 11-18 September.
“It was a great stage, tough in places, but well worth it,” said Hafren CC Club Event Secretary, Chris Hill. “We were pleased to be representing Montgomeryshire in the event and promoting cycling as a sport and recreation here in our home area as well as promoting the club all the way down to Caerphilly.”
The Tour of Britain will start Stage 4 of the event at Powis Castle on Wednesday, 14th September, heading to Montgomery and the back to Newtown before racing down the A483 to Builth Wells.
The club, which was reformed in January this year, has been holding time trials throughout the summer and now has more than 50 members and is open to members of all abilities. More details at www.hafrencc.com.
On Sunday, 4th September, the club will host a group ‘road’ cycle ride open to non-members of all abilities starting at The Flash Leisure Centre at 9.30am. Helmets are compulsory and under 18-year-olds need to be accompanied by an adult.
