Tough start for new era

24/08/2011 @ 11:38
Welshpool Town launches its new era back in the Spar Mid Wales League tonight with a race against time to gain international clearance for a number of new signings.

Manager David Jones is working the phones today after waiting for more than a week for registrations for his former university friends to be cleared by the English FA and transferred to the Welsh FA.

The players have agreed to help the manager out in his first season in charge as he bids to assemble a locally-based backbone to a Welshpool side for the first time in 10 years.

But it has not been an ideal build-up as he prepares to meet a much fancied and in form Montgomery side which is under the management of former Town boss Clive McNamee.

Elsewhere, Berriew go to Carno while Waterloo Rovers host struggling Dyffryn Banw.

In Division Two, surprise package Abermule face a massive local derby against Kerry who have a number of former Mule players in their line-up to spice up the contest even more.

Favourites Llanfair United host struggling Meifod while Llanfyllin take on Four Crosses.
